How FastID is helping build a secure and inclusive digital future
The European Union is working on a new standard for digital identification: the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet). This digital ID will give citizens more control over their data, make cross-border services easier to use, and improve digital security.
By 2027, every EU citizen will have access to a recognized digital ID. This requires innovation, collaboration, and reliable technology — exactly where FastID plays a key role.
Why the EUDI Wallet is a milestone for Europe
Digital identity has become essential in everyday life. People use it for:
- banking
- healthcare services
- education enrollment
- sharing diplomas or medical data
- accessing government services
Until now, these processes have been fragmented and dependent on national or commercial systems. The EUDI Wallet changes this by offering one secure and privacy-friendly solution, where users control what data they share.
Large Scale Pilots: testing Europe’s digital identity
Before the EUDI Wallet is fully launched in 2027, it is being tested in Large Scale Pilots (LSPs). In these projects, countries, companies, and public organizations work together to test:
- interoperability between EU countries
- security and privacy
- user experience and accessibility
- use across different sectors
- compliance with laws and regulations
These pilots turn vision into practice — and FastID plays an important role in them.
FastID’s role in the future of digital identity
FastID is part of the European APTITUDE consortium, where hundreds of organizations from twelve countries collaborate. Within this project, FastID focuses on three key areas:
-
Security as the foundation
FastID develops technology for secure verification, data protection, and fraud prevention. Digital identity must be resilient against current and future threats.
-
Interoperability through smart design
A European digital identity only works if systems connect seamlessly. FastID helps design an architecture that works across countries and sectors.
-
An inclusive user experience
Digital identity must be accessible to everyone. FastID contributes to user-friendly solutions, regardless of age, background, or digital skills.
2027: a certified digital identity for every European
The European Commission has a clear goal: by 2027, every EU citizen should have access to a recognized digital identity.
This means providers must meet strict requirements for security, privacy, interoperability, and reliability.
FastID is working towards these certifications, with a clear ambition: to become a certified digital identity provider and play a key role in Europe’s digital infrastructure.
